Sewer line construction to impact Prairie/Burlington intersection on May 1-2

Construction of the new Burlington Avenue storm sewer will impact the intersection of Burlington and Prairie Avenues on Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2, resulting in lane restrictions and new traffic patterns that may cause backups and delays for motorists in that area.

The contractor for this project will be installing a new 42-inch storm sewer on Burlington Avenue through Prairie Avenue on May 1 and May 2.

They will be setting up barricades in the intersection, temporary pavement markings, and informational signage throughout the area on Wednesday morning to route traffic to the west half of Prairie Avenue while they work within the east portion.

Once they have reached the center of the intersection, the barricades, pavement markings, and signage will be relocated to the west side of the intersection and traffic will be moved to the east side.

There will be a period of time (we are anticipating it will last between 2 and 4 hours) where the contractor is installing sewer pipe through the middle of the intersection where there will not be enough room to maintain two-way traffic.

During this time, the contractor will be flagging traffic to allow one side to get through the intersection at a time. There will be an additional flagger on the north side of the railroad crossing to ensure that no traffic builds up across the tracks.

We have informed the contractor that this temporary one-way traffic setup will need to be completed between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to avoid large backups forming from vehicles that are commuting to/from work.

Thank you for your patience as this phase of construction is completed.
