TIF DistrictsThe Village of Brookfield has four Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts to encourage economic development. It is required that financial information for these areas be reported to the Illinois Comptroller’s Office at the end of each fiscal year.
Annual BudgetThe annual appropriations ordinance serves as the foundation for the Village’s financial planning and control. Each year all departments of the Village are required to submit requests for appropriation to the Village Manager and these requests serve as the basis for development of a proposed appropriation ordinance. The Village Manager then presents this proposal to the Village President and Board of Trustees. The Village Board is required to hold at least one public hearing on the proposed appropriation and adopt a final appropriations ordinance no later than the end of the first quarter of the fiscal year. The appropriation is prepared by fund, department and object. The Corporate Authorities, by a two-thirds vote, may make transfers from one object to another so long as no appropriation falls below an amount sufficient to cover all obligations incurred against the appropriation.
