Beautification Commission Presents 2023 Brookie Awards to Business Owners

Each year the Brookfield Beautification Commission rewards one to four business owners who have undertaken projects that enhance the appearance of their businesses' facades and interiors by designating the Brookie Award winners.

On June 7, members of the Commission, including Rose Bottorf, Elaine Jans, April Hedlund and Steve Sabourin, along with Village Board liaison Katie Kaluzny, presented framed 2023 Brookie Awards, along with a sticker for their front windows, to the following businesses/owners. The Commission chose the winners earlier this year.

Dr. Shikha Kapoor, Brookfield Dental Studio, 9201 Broadway Ave.
Julie Procich and Diane Magno, Sister Squared Florist, 3741 Prairie Ave.
Jennifer O'Desky, Pub 78, 3733 Grand Blvd.

Dr. Kapoor, along with her husband Raj Kapoor, took advantage of the Village's Property Improvement Program, which provides reimbursements of 50% up to $20,000 to owners of business owners in the Village's TIF districts to make exterior improvements to their buildings. The Kapoors completed a comprehensive makeover of their building's exterior as well as the interior.

O'Desky also obtained a PIP grant to beautify the exterior of Pub 78, including new code-compliant signage and a pair of folding doors, which open the front of the bar right onto Grand Boulevard when the weather permit.

Procich and Magno transformed their Prairie Avenue storefront into a charming, welcoming, pet-friendly space full of floral displays and gift items for purchase, a wonderful complement to the new roster of small family-owned business on Prairie Avenue.

Congratulations to the 2023 Brookie Award winners!
